From the Duc de La Roche-Guyon et de La Rochefoucauld
Friday March 6. [1779]

The Duc de la Rochefoucauld was not aware, in asking Monsieur Franklin to dinner this Wednesday, that Madame his mother plans to send her staff to the country that day. She is quite displeased at being deprived, by this unlucky coincidence, of the pleasure and honor of receiving Monsieur Franklin; she hopes that she will be more fortunate when she returns from the country; the Duc de la Rochefoucauld asks him to accept her apologies and regrets.
